more stuff i made – for owen

Jackson gave me a break last weekend and took at 3 hour nap on Saturday and Sunday – just enough time to finish up the gifts for Owen’s baby shower. I love this baby’s parents, and just can’t wait to meet him. I love this animal print:

And of course there had to be an owl or two to go with Owen’s nursery…

Week 14: Faith – Edit

Here’s my edits for this week’s photo – Faith:

And here is the play-by-play:
LR: Custom white balance
PS: Ashley’s clean action – played with the opacity and ‘type’ of layers
MCP High Def Sharpening
Added Text

And here is the SOOC to Final Edit compare.

I’ll say it again, but I’m loving having homework each week that gets me playing around with Photoshop. I am a learner at heart, so having that direction and guidance to follow has been a blessing.

Be sure to check out the other beautiful images of faith.

This week’s theme is faith. The picture I have this week is of my┬áday lilies. My day lilies are one flowering plant I know I can count on every Spring. It has survived my inattention, my mistakes, and when they begin to bloom early each Spring and then again every morning, I am reminded of this verse:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness”

Lamentations 3:22-23

I love every.single.word from those two verses. Isn’t it amazing how much power is contained in two short verses? May you also find something around you that reminds you of His Great Unfailing Love and Faithfulness offered to us each and every day, regardless of our state.

Here is my SOOC:

Be sure to check out some of the other examples of faith this week.

so maybe all you can see is an oddly-shaped blackish blob… but I can see my sweet baby boy holding his Daddy’s hand, and that, my friends, is all that matters.

Or maybe not exactly wow… just, eh. Maybe it helps to start with something you are head over heals in love with? Or it may just be my prevailing mood this week. I am seeking inspiration and a spark.

Here are steps I took at trying to do something interesting with this photo:

LR Edit: Custom WB

Photoshop: Nelly Nero’s Grunge-it Action, PTM Timeworn texture – desaturated at 40%, Ashley’s Quick & Easy action – color layer set to screen at 20%.

And, here is the comparison of the SOOC and edit:

I did enjoy playing with several different textures and layer options. It really opens up an artistic element that is fun to explore. Thanks so much for the tutorials Ashley! I’ve had a great time learning all of your techniques.

It was a little bit difficult coming up with something for this week. The theme is “up”. Who would’ve thought a two letter challenge would be that challenging? I spent some brief time outside over the past two days, in between nap time and work, and spent some time looking up. I actually learned a few things by doing so… For one, we have a beautiful cardinal and his wife living in one of the trees of our backyard, it’s actually quite a lively place, with birds everywhere. I now understand why we have some many neighborhood cats visiting. Also, the sky turns a beautiful blue just as the sun is setting. Unfortunately, I didn’t move fast enough to get a good picture of either, but here is the picture I’m going to play around with this week.

I’m thinking of some tonal changes – maybe something sepia-ish or B&W…
